TERASUN consortium meeting hosted in Delft
July 24, 2025The TERASUN project consortium recently concluded a successful Review Meeting, marking a significant milestone in the evolution of European solar technology. Partners gathered to evaluate key achievements and synchronize the next phases of development for the next generation of photovoltaic cells.
Revitalizing the Solar Industry through Innovation
The core mission of TERASUN is to strengthen the European solar market by optimizing photovoltaic cell production. By blending cutting-edge research with industrial scalability, the project is making solar energy:
- More Efficient: Boosting the energy conversion rates of standard modules.
- Cost-Effective: Developing low-cost fabrication processes.
- Sustainable: Reducing the environmental impact of the manufacturing lifecycle.
Upgrading Crystalline Silicon (c-Si) Photovoltaic Cells
A primary focus of the consortium is the enhancement of crystalline silicon (c-Si) photovoltaic cells. Through innovative materials and advanced manufacturing techniques, TERASUN is bypassing traditional production bottlenecks. These upgrades allow for higher performance without the premium price tag typically associated with next-gen solar tech.
Path to TRL6: Scaling Photovoltaic Technology
The meeting confirmed that the project is on track to reach Technology Readiness Level 6 (TRL6). This indicates that the photovoltaic cell innovations are moving beyond the laboratory and into relevant simulated environments, proving their viability for large-scale industrial application.
